Privacy policy and disclaimer

In this privacy policy, we will let our users know about how the personal information they provide to UKUMBI is to be used; meaning a personal picture or video; a username (a nick of their choice to use in this site); their real name; an e-mail address (where they can be contacted by the UKUMBI staff); language preferences (that can be set in English, Spanish or Portuguese); country of residence; marital status (only two options, “available” or “taken”, can be chosen); birthdate; sex (male or female); website (the address of any website of their own, blog, company site, facebook profile, etc.) All of this information, except their e-mail, will be registered and displayed by default in their UKUMBI profile to let the users know each other and so create a pleasant community.
  1. When you sign up to join the UKUMBI site, you will be asked for certain personal data such as the ones mentioned above, so you can be identified as an UKUMBI member. Nevertheless, we will make sure that any information you provide will be seen only by other members of the UKUMBI community. UKUMBI does not intend to sell, disclose or let any third party have any personal information, unless it is strictly necessary; for instance when crimes or offenses are committed, when it is required by law or when we consider that your personal data should be made public to prevent any illegal action or fraud, or any physical harm to any person.
  2. UKUMBI can electronically, physically, and systematically protect the personal information of our users, as determined by federal laws. If we should change that due to circumstances beyond our control, and those changes are of outmost importance or affect our users and their information, we will let them know by e-mail.
  3. In UKUMBI, users can shoot a video with a webcam that is connected to their computer, or upload any video from their hard disk drive. Once such video is stored in our servers, it can be edited in the user’s control panel in the UKUMBIs web portal. The editing process is quite simple, and users can add visual effects (such as floating balloons, ribbons or hearts, or dancing silhouettes) or a background sound file to their videos. Both the information posted and how the site itself is used are entirely responsibility of the user, since UKUMBI’s purpose is that of intercommunication only. UKUMBI will not support any user that breaks any copyright laws.
  4.  Once the video has been edited, the user can mail it to any address. Ownership of uploaded video messages belongs to the user that creates them and not to UKUMBI; though, as specified before, such videos will be stored as long as they are being used. Users should be careful about the kind of information they are sending and to whom they send it. Due to the potential risks of posting information on the internet, caution and discretion are very important.
  5. Users are responsible for keeping their key or password confidential, according to these policies and conditions.
  6. In UKUMBI, users can save and label their videos as public or private. If videos are labeled as “public”, they will be listed in the general directory for any other user to watch, send, post, or download. If they are marked as “private”, they can only be watched, edited, downloaded or posted by the user that created them and the person they are sent to. Public videos are displayed in the site’s home page, the video directory, in the search results page and, in special occasions, inside of the UKUMBI blogs for promotional use (to be shown together with news, or as an example of creativity when using the editing tools, etc.). If users of third parties are interested in doing so, public videos can be embedded in other websites (such as personal blogs, facebook profiles or any other webpage that supports embedding) with a code.
  7. The sender of any message that contains personal data is solely responsible for the use of such information. UKUMBI has no liability other than providing the video message service.
  8. Proper behavior is expected from users of UKUMBI. They should be making use of the site’s services keeping in mind that my rights end where yours begin.
  9. Users are under obligation to use their UKUMBI account adequately since the site will make it possible to display certain information or contents, for instance commercial advertising. Therefore, users should be aware that their actions must be in agreement with law and suitable for the server’s condition. No offensive or harassing content will be allowed.
  10.  The safe keeping of the user’s code and password is a priority for us when it comes to protect the user himself from any eventual civil liability, such as a possible identity theft or impersonation to carry out any illegal action.
  11. Access to your personal date will be limited to UKUMBI’s staff only when such action is necessary to provide the service correctly. The user’s personal information is only visible in his or her profile. Personal e-mail cannot be seen at all in the site.
